It is a mix of the Ayahuasca vine and the Chacruna (a plant from the coffee family), which gives the potion its brown color and somewhat bitter taste. The reason for this blend is that the Ayahuasca is a source of DMT (Dimethyltryptamine), a powerful mind-altering compound. However, since it has to be drunk, our digestive system has an enzyme called MAO (monoaminoxidase) which destroys the DMT.
